I’ve been trying to find black lace 16x8 Trans Am GTA/Buick GNX wheels for my ‘77 Trans Am project car since... well since I decided I wanted them. Problem is they’re PRICEY in good condition. So I started shopping used.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but noticed why they were so cheaply listed on eBay. But at $40 per shipped I ain’t cared. I’ll just touch them up eventually. Currently they’re on the back of the car, keeping the rear axle off the ground.
That was two and a half years ago.... time flies. Since then I’ve been watching eBay, checking Craigslist, going to swap meets.... and literally NOTHING. Unless I want to spend $500+ on a set. No. I do not.
Then last week, a seller lists a black lace GTA wheel with a very basic one picture posting on eBay. I click on it, and it says there are TWO available. At $75 the price was steep, but they agreed to combine shipping, and I just happened to have some money set aside.
The next day I get an e-mail. They only had the one in black. The other was silver. The seller’s employee (its a wheel shop) listed it wrong.
Cancel the whole thing. I need TWO more.
Fast forward to a few days ago, and another black mesh GTA wheel pops up on eBay. No Buy It Now, so I wait. And wait. And with a minute to go I enter an opening bid. $35! Then eBay logs me out and I couldn’t buy it no more.
FACK.
So I emailed the guy, asked him to relist it, and he did!
The wheel has a tiny bend in the outer lip, but I can have it straightened, no biggie.
But I still need ONE MORE WHEEL.
So I contact the wheel shop guy, since they never re-listed the wheel, and asked if they still had the one black one.
They did. They listed it. I bought it.
It came today.
Looking closely it appears to have been re-painted, and doesn’t have the dimples at the end of the spokes like the other three I have.
OR, like the TWO MORE THAT WERE JUST LISTED TO EBAY TODAY >:(((
I... I might just end up with 6 wheels. YOLO.
And why not? I currently have a set of steelies from my Camry, two 15" Firebird wheels on the front subframe of the Trans Am, a set of snow tires on steelies for the Mazda, all seasons on the factory 17"s I took off last week, and the RX-8 wheels with summer tires on the car now.
So many wheels...

Yeah, they’re certainly not easy to find... I got lucky; Hawk’s was selling an original set on ebay and I jumped on them. A bit pricey, but they’re in great shape. Also they’re technically not the right year for my car (The early ones have the dimples, mine dont), but I can’t argue with how they look.

Slow car = can barely spin the ones on there now.
Oh you mean the TA.

I forgot to mention too that they’re all rears. Another reason why a full set never appealed to me.
They do look like the sex on your car.

Extra wheels are a good thing with project cars.
“We need to move the ‘57.”
“Throw the old rallye’s on it!”
If only they fit around the calipers.

Ah right, forgot about that. I don’t know about second gets, but on third gens the fronts work on the rears, but not vice versa.
And thank you! I still have the ugly base model wheels I bought it with in case you want to add to your collection haha

15x7 or 8? Cause I see 7's everywhere, no one really wants them it seems.

It seems finding original wheels are just getting hard to find regardless of style. When I restored the 68 Camaro is took a long time to find true GM 15x7 Rally’s and this was 10 years ago. I have to stock wheels off my 14 SS Camaro and I can't give the things away

Use one as a spare. (Going through your posts now that you’re back to working on it)

You could always look into the Year one 17x9 snowflakes if you want original looks with better tire options, that’s what I’m thinking about doing.

I want those but with a 3300$ car, I can't afford 1000$ wheels
